So I think I have a newfound love for cropped denim. Okay, so truth be told, I have been avoiding the cropped trend for a WHILE. When I was a kid I was so tall and skinny (like grossly skinny) that it was nearly impossible for my parents to find me jeans that were long enough and also small enough in the waist. I was forever wearing jeans that were super baggy on me (with a belt cinched as far as it would go) or high-waters. Seriously, the day capris became a thing was the best day ever for me, and that was around 5th grade. Skinny jeans weren’t a thing yet, so everyone was wearing flared denim which, at the time, wasn’t cool when it was too short. So when this trend came around earlier this year I thought to myself, “There is no way I’m jumping on board this one.” After seeing so many people style it so well though, I couldn’t resist giving it a try. Come to find out, I kind of love it!
For me, the key to wearing cropped flared jeans is finding the right shoe. I have found that if you are going for a heel, the heel needs to be a block heel (for booties or pumps). Mules and pointy-toe flats always tend to look cute too. The booties can be a bit tricky though. They have to hit at just the right height. I have found that if too much of my leg is showing it looks a little weird. I have these booties in two colors, and on me, they seem to be just about perfect with this style of jean.
This pair of jeans is also high-rise, and I tend to like to wear my shirts tucked in with my high-rise jeans. Since it was actually chilly here in Houston yesterday, I went with this super soft and cozy mock neck sweater from Madewell. This exact sweater is almost sold out, but I’ve linked a couple of similar styles above.
I have been obsessed with these metallic gold mules ever since getting them for my birthday a couple of weeks ago, so I couldn’t resist pairing them with this look. This is what I plan to wear over to some friends’ house for New Year’s Eve tonight, so I wanted to add a little shimmer somewhere in the outfit, while still keeping it casual. We are just doing dinner together since we all have little kids, so I needed an outfit I can chase my littles around in for the evening!
Can y’all believe 2016 is over already?! I feel like the year just flew by. I can’t wait to see what 2017 has in store! Wishing you all the happiest New Year!
xo, Loren
