How many of you are moms who weren’t aware when their kids were off school for a holiday? Well, that happened today. After carefully planning out my day (because my car’s a/c is out so I was also trying to plan a route that wouldn’t require my car to sit in the sun for too long so I wouldn’t get as hot), I drove up to my kids’ little school, that they only attend two days a week, ready to start my day.
We are always early (something my mom instilled in me at an early age) and I took them inside to a dark hallway, wondering why no lights were on. I just figured they hadn’t turned them on yet. Well, the church pastor (their school is a little church’s preschool program) came out and told me he doesn’t think there are classes today, for Columbus Day. Quite frankly, I didn’t even realize we observed Columbus Day as an off-school holiday, but whatever.
The best part? Right after dropping off the kids, I was supposed to go to an appointment for my eyelash extensions. You know, the kind where they basically tape your eyes closed and and you can’t open them for an hour. So, I called to cancel, only to find out that their cancellation policy is 24-hour notice and I would incur a fee as much as the cost of the service I was cancelling.
I mean listen, I get it. But what was I supposed to do? Since I refused to pay for the same service twice essentially, I rushed home to pick up the kids tablets, and brought them with me to my lash appointment. Luckily, the girl who does my lashes thinks kids are adorable, and I’ve got a good relationship with her, so she didn’t mind. And by the grace of God, Liv and Mason were literally PERFECTLY behaved for the entire hour, barely even making a sound.
Here’s hoping the rest of the week goes a little more smoothly!
